Women in Texas Country Music
Remi Mae
Twenty-two-year-old Remi Mae grew up in Western Colorado and made her way to Central Texas in the Fall of 2021. Being from a rodeo family while her parents were both rockers, her childhood consisted of listening to classic country as well as rock and roll, organically landing her sound somewhere perfectly between these genres.
Her music and performance style has been shaped by a diverse group of artists. “Like most singer-songwriters, I have a love for metaphor and romanticism, and I’ve always been drawn to writers like Jackson Browne and Townes Van Zant. But like I said before, rock is my roots and I’ve been greatly inspired my whole life by Springsteen, George Thorogood, Bonnie Raitt, along with those early trailblazers like Etta James and Dean Martin.”
Remi Mae’s first project was a self-titled EP mixing elements of Texas Country, Americana, and Rock sounds. This collection of songs showcases her ‘old soul’ songwriting style and features vocals from stand-out Texas country artists Cody Canada and Sunny Sweeney.
“I started the recording process at Yellow Dog Studios when I was 19 and had no idea what to expect. I brought in six songs that I had written in high school that I believed were mediocre. F.C. Westcott helped get the ball rolling and my producer Dave Percefull and the swag studio musicians breathed life into my songs. I fell in love with the songs through the process.”
“I am still configuring my songwriting process and searching for a balance of discipline and inspiration. I almost take myself out of the process to just be a spectator of what comes through me.”
Remi Mae’s songs “Washing Machine Song” featuring Cody Canada and “Classic Kind of Thing” featuring Sunny Sweeney were her first two songs to Texas Radio. “My radio promoters, Jen and Ray Redding (Jenerayte) were amazing to work with and helped place these songs exactly where they needed to be.” “Washing Machine Song” reached #12 on the Texas charts and “Classic Kind of Thing” hit #14 on the T3R chart.

Remi Mae and managing partner at Yellow Dog Studios, Casey Johns, just got off the road from a successful acoustic tour in Colorado where they were met by receptive and generous fans. On July 20th, Remi Mae opened for Whitney Morgan and the 78’s at a sold-out show at Gruene Hall. She has another opening slot at Gruene Hall in the books for August 23rd with Kin Faux.
More of Remi Mae’s upcoming shows include August 9th at The Red Bird Listening Room in New Braunfels and opening for Jaret Ray Reddick from Bowling for Soup at Love and War in Plano, Texas on August 30th.
Remi Mae is heading back to Yellow Dog Studios in August to record a full-length conceptual album, citing inspiration from Robin Trower’s 1977 ‘In City Dreams’ album with warmer tones, a lot more space, and heavier guitar than her debut EP. “I am blessed to know some stellar musicians that want to be on the new record like Phil Hook, Casey Johns, and Bill Whitbeck, along with Dave Percefull and Casey Johns co-producing.”
