Women in Texas Country Music
Brandi Behlen

Award-winning Texas-based country singer and songwriter, Brandi Behlen, has been a Texas Country Music Association member since 2019. “My experience has been deeply enriching and fulfilling. It has provided me with numerous opportunities to grow as an artist, connect with like-minded individuals, and contribute to the vibrant Texas country music scene.”

As a country singer-songwriter, Brandi blends elements of storytelling, classic instrumentation, and genuine emotion into her traditional country sound to create music that is both timeless and true to herself.

Brandi is a risk taker with her sound, always challenging herself to set the bar higher. At the same time, her songs have a warm, familiar vibe to them, echoing the tradition of the best country artists.

Brandi’s love for music started as a child, growing up watching her grandpa play steel guitar in his band, Wildcard. “On weekends, I’d travel with my family to watch Wildcard play and end up falling asleep on the Texas dancehall tables.”

She draws influence from legendary traditional country musicians like Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn when it comes to her storytelling approach, vocal delivery, and melodic style.

Brandi describes her songwriting as a deeply personal and often intuitive process.  “Inspiration can strike at any moment. It might come from a personal experience, an emotional moment, or even a captivating story I hear. I often jot down phrases or ideas on my phone to capture the spark when it hits. I also organize co-writes. I love to bounce ideas off other writers to see what comes out of it. Overall, my songwriting process requires patience, openness, and a deep connection to the creative process.”

Brandi’s newest single “Bad Boy, Good Man” released on May 3rd of this year, and is a fun love story about falling for a new flame. The song was written a few months ago after Behlen had been stuck in a writer’s block. “It just felt good to finally get out of that rut with this song. Recording was fun! When I first write and play a song, it's just my guitar and I, so when I get into a room with incredible studio musicians it really comes all together. We experimented with different instrumental textures and production techniques to bring out the authenticity of the track.”

“A lot goes into releasing a single, so Southern Borders Entertainment and I got a plan together. Building anticipation among my fans and reaching new listeners was a priority throughout this phase. Hearing positive feedback from listeners and seeing it continue to rise on the Texas charts has been incredibly rewarding. It affirmed the hard work that went into creating "Bad Boy, Good Man".

Being a full-time teacher on top of a musician, Brandi’s peak time for touring is during the summer months. “One big show that I'm really looking forward to is this fall with Doug Stone. I'll be opening for Doug at Brauntex Theatre in New Braunfels, Texas on September 21, 2024. As an artist, I’ve always admired Doug’s talent and the impact he’s had on the country music scene. Sharing the stage with him is the cherry on top of an already amazing sundae!”

Brandi has been in the studio working on some upcoming singles, writing new songs, and playing live shows. “As these projects develop, I'm excited to share more details and updates with you. Stay tuned for announcements and new music on the horizon!”
