In February 2023 Schoepf’s BBQ located in Belton, TX will have been in Business for 30 Years.
"I started the business with my Dad and that plan was he would be the owner and me the manager while I attended college." says Ronnie Schoepf who owns Schoepf's BBQ along with his wife Staci, who was honored with an article by Texas Barbecue as one of the Top Women in BBQ. "Staci and I attended Texas A&M and graduated May 1996. We both worked for ConAgra and then in Pharmaceuticals. We bought the business from my Dad on August 1, 2007 leaving my Pharma job before Staci followed a couple years later."
Ronnie and Staci started making improvements to the existing building and added on to the business which included a backroom and a concert area. They made improvements to recipes and added a Tex Mex BBQ menu along with other items.
"We added the occasional live music to the business in 2008," says Ronnie. "Our first concert event in Schoepf’s Backyard was July 3, 2009 that bill was Chris Knight, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Lance Wade Thomas, Michael Carubelli, and the KC Red Band."
Currently, the Schoepfs host the Shooter FM Acoustic Lunch every Friday in their Backroom from 12pm-1pm on live radio Waco 92.9 Shooter FM featuring 2 Texas Artists in an acoustic song swap. "I think its been going on for about 3 years hosted by Mike Crow, Jim Nash, and sometimes me AKA Spare Rib!" he says.
During the winter we host the Schoepf’s Backroom Acoustic Sessions hosted by Eric Raines of KOKE FM in Austin. "We record it live with interview questions later to be played back on the radio. The video of the artist is posted to the stations website, ours, and the Artist." he explains, "and during the Spring, Summer, and Fall we host ticketed concerts, charity events, and even have held a prom!"
They ran the Schoepf’s FREE Texas Music Series for over a decade offering free concerts to the public with the help of sponsors. Many now famous artist played in our free series which was known throughout the state. Such as Cody Johnson, Parker McCollum, Turnpike Troubadours, Whiskey Myers, Jack Ingram, Cody Jinks, and many more.
Schoepf's BBQ has been written up and ranked as one of Texas Best BBQ places over the years by many organizations such as Texas Barbecue, Texas Monthly, Houston Chronicle, Texas Highways, and others.
"We got to serve at the Super Bowl in Dallas representing Texas Best BBQ!" says Ronnie.
Ronnie and Staci have also been honored by the Texas Country Music Association as a top 5 Finalist in the 2022 Texas Country Music Awards for the Live Music Venue of the Year category. The Awards takes place on November 13th at Billy Bob's Texas in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Schoepf's BBQ is also a Sponsor of the Texas Country Music Awards and Ronnie Schoepf will be co-presenting the highly acclaimed Emerging Artist of the Year Award with KOKE-FM's Eric Raines.
