New on the Scene
Tasman Sharp

At just 14 years old, Tasman Sharp has already played the stages of venues like the Austin Marathon, The Mean Eyed Cat, Iron Horse Bar and Grill, Gruene Hall, Freiheit Country Store, and Gringo's Icehouse to name a few.

Tasman has been a member of the Texas Country Music Association for around eight months and says that during that time, he’s “had the opportunity to meet a bunch of people and learn from experts who have been in the music business for many years. Everyone has been so willing to help and provide guidance.”

Tasman got started in music when him and his family were living on a boat, named the Ripsnorter, completing a trip called The Great American Loop. At one of their stops in Key West, Tasman saw people playing for tips at a restaurant and thought “Oh, I can do that.” Not long after, Tasman started taking lessons at School of Rock and The Beagles Nest Studio in New Braunfels and was playing street corners, farmers markets, restaurants, and anywhere else that would pay him enough to get snow cones afterwards.

Tasman released his first album titled “A Good Life” in February of this year, describing the process of recording and releasing as “A Blast”. “I was like a sponge.  I learned there is a huge difference between studio performing and live performance. Since I was spending my own money, I learned not to waste time.  We artist like to have fun and talk a bunch, but when it is time to work, it is time to work.”

Kevin Geil of Two Tons of Steel has been mentoring Tasman over the last two years, designating the opening slots to Tasman at Gruene Hall for Two Ton Tuesdays and touring local venues like Sam's Burger Joint and the Devil's Backbone.

Tasman has been keeping the momentum going with a multitude of upcoming shows and projects. “The big show I’m really looking forward to is headlining for the 2024 Student Bonfire for the Fighting Texas Aggie Student Body in Hearne, TX on the November 29th prior to Midnight Yell for the Aggie v. Longhorn game. They are anticipating about 30K in attendance. My band and I will be ripping out a 4-hour show.”

Tasman also has seven songs that he is currently refining and planning to record. “Again, I pay for my own recording sessions, so I have been power washing driveways and doing odd jobs to make extra money for recording.  Once I have the studio booked, I am going to work with Matt Briggs and Zack Walther to record these singles.  I have written a few, cowritten two, and Sheri Swartz wrote another fun rodeo song.  I also have a song about Saturday night that Mr. Kevin Geil’s friend gave me.  I want these songs to be fun, fast, and memorable.”
